many of my friends asked me how to load windows xp installation cd on sata drive. since all new laptop/desktop distributed with sata harddisk and default installation of windows vista, many people having difficulty when they try to downgrade their vista to windows xp.
since windows xp installation CD got no SATA driver so we gonna get error on no harddisk detected
to fix this, you may load SATA driver from floppy disk. for certain model/brand,you can just load it from bios by enable AHCI mode in your bios setting. some acer models have this option.
for desktop you wont have any difficulty to load the driver from floppy, but since nowadays laptop doesn’t have floppy disk, here come the problem.
so how to fix this??
here’s is some instruction on how to rebuild windows xp installation CD loaded with SATA drivers
1) download SlipVIASata.rar
2) extract or make ISO from your Windows XP CD. hint: use powerISO
3) edit file TXTSETUP.SIF located in I386 folder (refer to Info.txt in SlipVIASata.rar)
4) save TXTSETUP.SIF and copy all *.sy_ to I386 folder
5) create bootable cd from that iso
i recommended you to use read write disk just in case if anything happaned
you dont want to waste your cds right? haha!
that’s it! good luck
